Review:Live Unplugged with Asus Zenfone Max

Asus appointments Bollywood diva – Sonakshi Sinha as the brand’s first-ever brand ambassador in India.

Asus Zenfone Max entered the mobile market with much hype for its commendable long battery life. Asus has announced the new edition to its Zenfone Max on 23rd May 2016. It is touted to have the longest battery life for up to 3 days once fully charged! Yes, you heard me right! Zenfone Max is priced at Rs 9,999 for the 2 GB ram variant and Rs 12,999 for 3 GB. Asus has maxed everything in their newly launched phone be it the battery life, the processor or the storage capacity which pretty much justifies it being named Zenfone Max. Lets find more about the device.

Highlights of Zenfone Max-

Uncompromising battery life, OTG cable which turns phone into charger

Strong build and leather crafted design with amazing color options, chick n stylish

Android Marshmallow 6.0.1

1.5 Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, available in 16 and 32 GB and expandable up to 64 GB

Design and Build

Beginning with the looks, nothing much has changed as compared to the previous Zenfone Max, as the looks are exactly the same. The rear camera and the placement of the side keys for volume and power are still same i.e. on the right edge of the phone. The back of the Zenfone Max is made of leather so it has got a good grip when you hold the phone and looks strong. As compared to other Zenfone models, this one has a more strong build but rest is same. It has a HD display of 5.5 inch and resolution of 1280x720p. The Zenfone Max screen has oleophobic coating , makes the screen fingerprint and smudge-resistant. The icons appear big, clear and sharp.

I liked the colors of Zenfone Max, it is available in bright orange, aqua blue, white and the all-time classic black color. The colors have a nice summer-ish feel, the orange and the blue ones will surely brighten up your outfit! I think I am going to style this as my accessory too.

Battery Life

Once the phone is charged fully, there is no need to put it on charging for the next 3 days! Zenfone Max indeed makes you “live a life unplugged“. For a travel blogger like me, phone battery is always a big concern as I need to use my phone constantly for calling, camera, work etc. Also, using phone with 3G or 4G, often eats up the battery faster. But with Zenfone Max, when fully charged, it provides 914 hours of standby time or 37 hours of 3G talk time or 32 hours of Wi-Fi web browsing or 72 hours of music playback or 22 hours of video playback.

The OTG cable which comes along with the phone makes it possible to turn the phone itself into a charger to power up other devices. OTG cable also has a USB port. So, Zenfone Max acts like a power bank too, now that’s innovative! It has this huge battery of size 5000 mAh which makes the phone a bit heavier but who cares if its giving such a long battery life.

Asus has upped the processor now Zenfone Max comes with the 1.5 Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor which enables a more smoother multitasking experience. It runs on the latest Android OS, Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. Although, I am not much of a gaming person but for those who are addicted to play games on phone can expect awesome and faster gaming experience.

I always look out for the camera first in a phone. And I am impressed with Zenfone Max camera. It has a rear camera of 13 MP and a 5 MP front camera with dual LED flash. I liked clicking pictures using its low light mode. It captures the finest details and the pictures look more bright and lively. With the laser auto-focus, clicking pictures on a go is a lot more fun now, it captures the image in 0.03 seconds.

So, I would sum it up as a great phone for those who have to travel a lot for work as one need not worry about running out of battery. Its battery life is its most promising feature and makes it stand apart from rest of its competitors like – Xiaomi Redmi note 3, Gionee Marathon M5 Lite and Lenovo Vibe K4 Note. It looks great with its fresh eye-popping colors and leather grip design. It runs of latest Android version and a good value for money makes it a good buy.

Wearable devices: Best 5 smartwatch to choose from

Wearable devices

As an accessory, watch has always been my favourite. They add to the style quotient as well as an essential to complete a look. Undeniably, with the evolving technology, we have the luxury to incorporate both ‘style-n-tech’ into our attire. So, next time you decide to buy a watch for yourself, why don’t change it with a Smart-watch! I bring to you the top 5 smartwatch to choose from.

  1. Apple Watch

Apple had ventured into the wearable device market with its three sets of smartwatch – Apple Watch Stainless Steel, Apple Watch Sport and Apple 18 Carat Gold Watch edition. If you are looking for luxury smart watch with some amazing features too then Apple is the right pick for you.

Apple watch

Apple might be the costliest of all in the wearable market but it offers you something unique! Now, paying just got easier as Apple Watch is enabled with NFC (near-field communication) technology as you just need to double click on the button at side panel of watch, hold the front of watch near POS terminal and with the vibrating pulse your payment gets confirmed. This feature is available to iPhone 5 and later series users.

With the introduction of Digital Touch feature, you can now send more personalised messages to your loved ones and friends. Draw an emoji all by yourself and share your feelings.

And I cannot end here without talking about the most notable feature of Apple i.e. Siri ! It just got more personal as you don’t need to put your fingers to work, draft and write a complete message to send rather just say it to Siri and your work will be done. So, no more need to type messages, time saving!!

  1. Moto 360 – 2nd Generation
Moto-360 - 2
Moto-360 – 2nd Generation

The best part about Moto 360 – 2 is that it comes with affordable price range and has very classy look. The dial is circular in shape with size of 42 mm and 46 mm. It has Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 APQ8026 processor and 4 GB memory. Also, the basic Touch-screen, WiFi and Bluetooth features are available. Not only this but it also offers different strap styles like for men it comes in Leather as well as steel and for women it has a beautiful Gold blush leather strap. The price range varies from about 20k to 23k. So, I put it on no. 2 because it’s completely value for money.

I also found one of its feature really awesome that with just one tap you can change the color of the dial. It has also been designed keeping in mind the needs of women as its sleek and comes in good colors and looks way more feminine than the rectangular dial watches.

  1. Samsung Gear S2

Gear S2 is one popular choice among smart watches. It has circular shaped dial with 1.2 inch display and straps of leather in black color, platinum and rose gold. It has Exynos 3250 processor. Email, Bluetooth, WiFi and messaging are its connectivity features. And the price range is about 15k to 25k. It’s available at flipkart and other online shopping sites.

  1. Asus Zenwatch 2

It’s incredibly good with the price range and features offered by Asus. The new Asus Zenwatch 2 has arrived in two sizes and three charming color themes – gun metal, rose gold and silver. It comes in the metal case with leather straps. The rose gold watch is extremely gorgeous and the one in silver metal with rectangular shape dial is one sure thing to look out for. Asus has come out with a much improved version as compared to its previous Zenwatch. As now it has display size of 1.45 inch and 1.63 inch. The design speaks luxury, comfort and class. best smartwatch 2016

It offers Bluetooth, WiFi support and messaging as its connectivity features. The internal memory is of 4 GB and its processor is Qualcomm Snapdragon 400. The only disadvantage I encountered is that it still has no GPS! Although, it has all the fitness tracking features and an all new wellness app. You can also control your phone’s camera with your Zenwatch like selecting front or rear camera and adjust the zoom. It has upto 48 hours battery life. Apart from this, you have a plethora of apps and software options to choose from.

It makes for a fantastic deal of looks, design, color and superb features at an much affordable price! It’s also exclusively available at Flipkart ranging from 12k to 15k!

  1. Huawei
Huawei smartwatch best smartwatch 2016
Huawei smartwatch best smartwatch 2016

Huawei stainless steel smartwatch is unarguably the best looking wearable, in absolutely nice packing. It’s stylish and suave looks gives it an edge over others. The price is about 23k and it only supports WiFi and Bluetooth facilities. Since it has no GPS so for the fitness lovers it might not be the safe bet. It has internal memory of 4 GB and Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. Everything good so far in terms of its build and design but Huawei has certainly kept the price a tad bit up!

So, choose the one which suits your style! Also, if you are looking to gift something unique to your loved ones then I guess this would be a great option.

Freedom 251: Ten things you should know about it

Freedom 251- World's cheapest smartphone

Ringing Bells, a name which has become famous overnight for making the cheapest 3G smartphone at an unbelievable price of Rs 251. Well, not only in India, but that (price) would make it world’s cheapest smartphone! They named the smartphone as Freedom 251. The little known Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd. is a company headed by Mohit Goel based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Taking the technology world by a surprise, Freedom 251 is said to offer decent features present in a smartphone at an highly affordable price but as per Indian cellular association the phone with such specifications must cost around at-least Rs 3500. Moreover, its manufacturing cost is estimated to be about 2500 even then its selling price is 251.. another strange fact to it! Freedom 251’s launch has initiated a strong debate worldwide.

The website,, especially made for the selling purpose of Freedom 251 has already crashed with the hoards of orders coming up for it. From a customer’s viewpoint, we bring to you some of the important facts you need to know about Freedom 251…

Freedom 251 world's cheapest smartphone

You would have often heard people saying “aj kal, 100 rupay me kya ata hai, iski koi value nhi” I don’t know about Rs 100 but Rs 251 me smartphone zarur aa sakta hai (In Rs.251 you can certainly get a smartphone)….:D

Asus Zenfone Zoom Review: DSLR experience in Smartphone!

Taj Mahal clicked by Asus Zenfone Zoom

Are you planning to get yourself a DSLR camera? Now you can have it without having to worry on spending thousands just for a DSLR! The brand new ASUS Zenfone Zoom is exactly what you looking for!

Last week, I attended the Launch event for Asus Zenfone Zoom at Jaypee Palace, in Agra. I am already a user of the Zenfone-2 Laser and I seem to be in awe of these Zenfone series. The theme behind the launch was “See The World Up Close”. For all the lovers of camera and photography, this gadget is surely going to get your hunger satisfied. It comes with the 3x Optical Zoom feature and that is its USP!

Basically, its a camera centric phone with the idea to provide a “pocket size DSLR”! Its 3x Zoom (upto 12x total zoom) lets you see the minutest detail. Also, it has optical image stabilization which enables you to take shake-free photos. The front camera is 5MP and the rear camera is 13 MP. I clicked some of the photos personally to experience the same and here it is…

This picture is of the interiors of one of the tomb in Taj Mahal. I clicked this picture using – Zoom, super resolution and low light mode. It was very dark inside but still then I easily captured the beautiful work done on the walls! Its camera offers various modes like – low light mode to click pictures in dark, maximized 52 MP super resolution mode for perfect clarity, HDR, etc.

Taj Mahal is the white beauty and I thought to play with the phone’s camera and find some creative ways to click Taj’s picture. I have used its very own filters and the sky behind Taj looks amazing! Zenfone Zoom surely enables you to see up-close! For more such amazing photos, you can check my latest photo blog where I have clicked every single photo using this phone.

One of the other features that I find very impressive and useful is its battery. This phone is equipped with the charger which is built with Boost Master fast charging technology and that enables it to charge around 60-65% in just about 40 minutes.

The look of the phone is very classy and elegant with the genuine leather grip. There is no chance of getting any scratch on the screen of your phone as it has Corning Gorilla glass 4 for ultimate protection. So, overall Zenfone Zoom comes as a great package of good looks, performance and durability in terms of its outer body.

ASUS has revolutionalised the phone cameras unlike any other brand and that makes ASUS stand apart from its competitors.

Top 7 Technologies to look out for in Smartphones

Our phones have changed from simple candy-bar Nokia 3310 to an extraordinary iPhone 6s, stuffed with multiple top-of-the-line features. Below mentioned are the brilliant technologies that have defined the face of the smartphone industry in the future. Even some big shot giants are providing these high end technologies in budget smart phones.

  1. Biometric Security

Not just the fingerprint scanner, but multiple other forms of biometric scanners have already entered in the market. One of the latest examples is the Windows Hello in Lumia 950 XL that scans your iris for authentication purpose.

You just need to look towards the display, and the scanner will automatically detect your eyes and unlock the device. Moreover, the technology works even in dark, as it depends on built-in infrared to scan your iris.

Fingerprint scanner has already gained a lot of popularity in multiple flagship devices, including iPhone 6s, Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 5, and the mid-range OnePlus 2.

Fingerprint scanner

They all have been designed to give you a faster and more secure way to access your device.

Google has integrated the fingerprint technology in their latest Android version, and the Nexus 5x and 6P comes with Nexus Imprint.

  1. Pressure Sensitive Display

Right after the introduction of 3D Touch in the iPhone 6s, Synaptics, the world leader in laptop touchpads, announced their own pressure sensitive panels for smartphones, tablets, etc. The pressure sensitivity, as seen in iPhone 6s, will add another dimension to the way we use our smartphones today. The phone will sense the amount of force being put on the screen and treats you with relevant information.

  1. Virtual Reality

This technology is still in nascent stage, but has a great potential to rule the future of not only the smartphone industry but the complete entertainment and electronics industry. In the future, when the VR content will be available more easily, you will be able to just put your smartphone into a VR device and enjoy your favourite shows in full 360-degree view. What an incredible experience it would be!

Samsung virtual reality headset
Samsung virtual reality headset

Samsung and HTC have successfully created their VR headsets which can provide you the immersive experience of the VR world using just your smartphone. You will just have to place your smartphone in the inbuilt holder, and you’re good to go. While such headsets will be available in the market within a few months, Google has given a more cost effective and easier way to experience VR content – Cardboard. Using cardboard, you can create your own VR headset, and it requires minimum setup. YouTube app has also been updated to support the cardboard, and you can easily access an array of 360 degree videos on the network.

  1. Tap to Pay

Apple Pay and Samsung Pay are already into the market, but they are limited to certain countries, and are accepted in even less number of stores. Combined with biometric security, payment made through these services is much more secure.

We will soon see these services in many more countries, and being widely used by the consumers for their added security and convenience. Samsung’s and Apple’s recently launched flagship devices are capable of making payments through their respective payment services, but they are yet to come to India.

  1. Wireless Charging

As of now, you have to place your smartphone over a charging pad to wireless charge your device. But, in the future, you won’t need any charging pad either; the pads would be built directly into your furniture, like tables, etc., and you just need to keep your device on the table to start charging it. By then, fast charging will also be much more effective in wireless charging, than what it currently is.

For the time being, Samsung’s latest flagship devices come with wireless charging facility. A few more devices have implemented the feature, but none have been as popular and effective as the Samsung’s. However, you will have to buy the charging pad separately, and being a new technology, it sports a premium price tag.

  1. Laser Autofocus

LG was the first manufacturer to implement this technology in their then flagship device G3, but it is now seen in various budget smartphones from Asus as well. The technology shoots a laser beam on the subject to ensure a faster and accurate focus lock, even in the low light condition. As a result, you get a perfect shot with an even perfect on spot focus. The Asus Zenfone 2 Laser is designed for giving an ultimate camera experience to user, without compromising on the quality, speed and accuracy, even when the lighting conditions aren’t adequate.

  1. LED Flash with the Front-Facing Camera

When you try clicking a selfie in dark, you certainly get disappointed because of its low quality with a lot of grains, and almost nothing being visible. Well, the companies have thought of this problem and have decided to accompany an LED flash with the front camera too. Motorola’s Moto X Style is one such latest smartphone that features a front facing LED flash to aid its already awesome selfie camera. Apple came with a unique way to cater the problem in their iPhone 6s. They used device’s display itself to light up your face for optimum lighting and ultimately better quality selfie.

Do we really understand Free Basics by Facebook?

free basics Facebook Net Neutrality

For the last few days, we have been seeing huge advertisements by Facebook in India’s leading newspapers on Digital Equality, stating it as a first step to connect one billion Indians through a campaign called Free Basics.

Free Basics ad by Facebbok
Free Basics by Facebook: Two page ad on TOI

What is Free Basics?

Lately, you must have been getting a lot of notifications stating, “your friend just sent a letter to TRAI supporting the free basics campaign of Facebook”. Free basics which intends to provide free internet access to 1 Billion people, who are yet to get the internet access and help them with JOB, Education and various other opportunities online. There are many people supporting this cause but there is another set of people talking a lot about it and definitely that is not so positive. Like any other debate, this one too has another side which Facebook is not highlighting. Facebook is not sharing all the facts related to its campaign and instead making its user to support the campaign through these push notifications. Lets compare both the sides and decide upon on our final decision.

What Facebook has stated in its letter to TRAI…

Free Basics Net Neutrality and Facebook
Facebook letter to TRAI

To achieve this objective, Facebook is inviting Mobile operators to participate and provide free internet on the platform known as So, the sole authority of accepting and rejecting an operator lies with Facebook only. It will create a platform where the content is being controlled by Facebook entirely. There will be a price differential for different content, different websites and even for different Apps.  And this is totally against the ‘Net Neutrality’. All these facts are not mentioned anywhere in the letter. Then, how come a user is able to take the informed decision?

You can watch this Videos to understand the Net Neutrality.

There’s another set of group, referred as small vocal group of critics by Facebook, with different view point. They are fighting for Net Neutrality in India for quite a while.

Lets understand the Free Basics through a video posted by AIB recently. This will give you a new perspective to think about Facebook’s Free Basics from this group’s point of view.

You can also go through the below link and read more about it.

This debate is open on public space till December 30, 2015. It’s better to make an informed decision rather than someone pushing you to do so. Before sending the letter to TRAI, as pushed by Facebook in your notification, read more and take a wise decision.
